Frequently Asked Questions
In a town full of mow-and-go operators, Yard Scouts is different. We're the new lawn care brand from the Scouts family — same ownership as Tree Scouts, Central Texas' most-reviewed tree service with 400+ five-star reviews. We bring honest pricing, consistent quality, and the Scouts Honor Promise to every visit: 25% of every invoice is held until you're 100% happy. One visit, and you'll see why Central Texas homeowners trust Yard Scouts with their lawns.
What services does Yard Scouts offer?
Yard Scouts focuses on doing a few things exceptionally well. Our Phase 1 services include weekly lawn mowing, precision edging along driveways and beds, core aeration for Central Texas' clay soil, and pet waste removal. Every service is backed by the Scouts Honor Promise and flat-rate pricing with no hidden fees. Fertilization, weed control, and seasonal cleanup are coming in 2026. For tree care — trimming, removal, oak wilt treatment — we partner with our sister brand Tree Scouts.
Is Yard Scouts licensed and insured?
Yes. Yard Scouts is fully licensed as a business and carries general liability and workers' comp insurance. Every crew member works under Scouts family standards, and every job comes with the Scouts Honor Promise: you don't pay the final 25% until you're 100% happy with the work.
Do I really need a professional lawn care company?
If you value your weekends, yes. A professional crew like Yard Scouts shows up on a schedule you can count on, uses commercial-grade equipment, and knows the right mow height for your grass type. Central Texas lawns need specific care — St. Augustine, Bermuda, and Zoysia each have different ideal heights and seasonal needs. Getting it right makes the difference between a yard that looks cut and a yard that looks cared for.
How much does lawn mowing cost in the Leander–Cedar Park area?
Lawn mowing in the Leander–Cedar Park area typically runs $35–$80 per visit based on yard size, slope, and access. Weekly service is priced lower per visit than one-time. Yard Scouts offers free lawn assessments so you get a flat-rate quote tailored to your property with no hidden fees.
What’s included in a free lawn assessment?
We walk your property, identify your grass type, note any problem areas (compacted soil, thin spots, weed pressure, bare patches), and give you a flat-rate quote on the spot. No pressure, no upsells, no hidden fees. You’ll leave more informed about your lawn whether you book with us or not.
How do I know if my lawn needs aeration?
Warning signs include water pooling or running off instead of absorbing, thin or patchy growth despite regular mowing, hard soil you can barely push a screwdriver into, and heavy foot traffic areas turning brown. Most Central Texas lawns benefit from annual core aeration because of the heavy clay soil.
When is the best time to mow and aerate in Central Texas?
Weekly mowing runs late March through October during peak growing season. November through February, biweekly is usually enough. The best time to aerate is April–June for warm-season grasses (Bermuda, St. Augustine, Zoysia), when your lawn is actively growing and can recover quickly.
Can mowing at the wrong height harm my lawn?
Yes. Mowing too short (called scalping) stresses the grass, exposes soil, and invites weeds. Central Texas grasses have different ideal heights — St. Augustine wants 3.5–4.5 inches, Bermuda wants 1.5–2.5 inches, Zoysia wants 2–3 inches. Yard Scouts uses professional lawn mowing methods, always prioritizing structural integrity, airflow, and health.
What if a service is missed due to weather?
If heavy rain or storms prevent a scheduled visit, Yard Scouts reschedules within the same week when possible. Communication is key — you’ll always know when we’re coming. Learn more about our reliable weekly service to remove hazards and prevent further property damage.
Will your team clean up after the job?
Always. Yard Scouts prides itself on leaving properties spotless. Grass clippings are mulched back into the lawn for soil health, edges are blown clean, and every walkway is cleared before we leave. Your yard is left sharp, clean, and ready to enjoy.
What makes Yard Scouts different from other lawn care companies?
Three things: the Scouts Honor Promise (25% held until you're 100% happy), honest flat-rate pricing with zero upsells, and the track record of the Scouts family. Tree Scouts has earned 400+ five-star reviews in Central Texas — Yard Scouts brings that same team and same standards into lawn care.
Do you offer ongoing lawn care plans?
Yes. Yard Scouts offers weekly and biweekly maintenance plans that include core aeration as part of a seasonal schedule. These plans keep your lawn healthy year-round and guarantee consistent service through Central Texas' long growing season.
How much does a healthy lawn add to my home’s value?
A healthy, well-maintained lawn can add 5–15% to curb appeal and home value. A sharp lawn is the first impression buyers get — Yard Scouts makes sure yours is ready.
What areas do you serve?
Yard Scouts serves Leander, Cedar Park, Georgetown, Liberty Hill, Round Rock, Austin, Lakeway, Bee Cave, Hutto, Pflugerville, Dripping Springs, and Steiner Ranch. Same crew, same Scouts Honor standards across every city.
Can you work with my HOA or community guidelines?
Yes. Yard Scouts works with HOAs and communities across Central Texas. We understand standard requirements for mow frequency, edge lines, and overall presentation, and we make sure every property we service stays in good standing with its association.
How does Yard Scouts treat grass clippings?
Yard Scouts mulches clippings back into the lawn by default. Mulched clippings return up to 25% of your lawn's nitrogen needs naturally and keep green waste out of landfills. For long grass or specific requests, we can bag and haul. Ask about mulching vs bagging, pruning practices, education, and responsible removal decisions. A portion of each job supports broader environmental initiatives.
How often should I mow my lawn in Central Texas?
Most Central Texas lawns need weekly mowing from late March through October, then biweekly or pause entirely through winter. The rule of thumb: never cut more than one-third of the blade length in a single mow. Yard Scouts builds your schedule around your grass type and growth rate.
Do you treat weeds, pests, or fungus?
Not yet. Chemical treatments require a Texas Department of Agriculture pesticide applicator license, which we're planning to add in 2026 as part of our Phase 2 services (fertilization, weed control, pest control). For now, Yard Scouts focuses on the cultural practices that make the biggest difference: mowing at the right height, aerating compacted soil, and consistent weekly care.
What if I'm not sure whether I need a service yet?
Book a free assessment. Yard Scouts will walk your property, explain what your lawn needs and doesn't need, and give you an honest recommendation. Sometimes the answer is "you're doing fine, just keep mowing at the right height." Booking an assessment is always free and always no-obligation.
Is scalping a good way to keep the grass short?
No. Yard Scouts strongly advises against scalping — it stresses your lawn, exposes soil to weeds, and damages the crown of the grass. For a shorter look, we reduce mow height gradually over multiple visits rather than cutting off too much at once.
Can I skip a service when I don’t need a mow?
Yes. Just let us know at least 24 hours ahead of your scheduled visit. Yard Scouts is flexible — we'd rather skip a visit you don't need than show up and charge for unnecessary work. That's the Scouts Honor way.
How do I know if my lawn has a safety issue?
Look for tripping hazards like exposed roots, uneven ground, broken sprinkler heads, or soggy spots that don’t drain. Yard Scouts will flag anything we notice during a service and let you know. If you're unsure, schedule a free lawn assessment and we'll walk it with you.
Do you offer commercial lawn care services?
Commercial services are on our 2026 Phase 2 roadmap. For now, Yard Scouts focuses on residential lawn care in Central Texas. If you manage a commercial property and want to be first in line when we launch, contact us to get on the priority list.commercial service clients, including property managers, developers, and HOAs, providing proactive care plans that meet safety and aesthetic standards.
What should I expect after my first Yard Scouts service?

We'll leave a service note with anything we flagged (thin spots, compaction, broken sprinklers, etc.) and recommendations for next steps. stump grinding Follow-up visits are auto-scheduled on your weekly or biweekly plan, and you can always reach us by phone or text.
